Explosives, suspects found at Excelsior school

Two 15-year-old males were taken into custody in Excelsior early last Saturday morning after police officers responded to a call of suspicious activity outside St. John the Baptist Catholic School, 638 Mill St., and Church.

The call into the South Lake Minnetonka Police Department was made around 3 a.m. by an off-duty police officer on his way home.



Lakeshore Market attempted robbery update

Two additional accomplices have been formally charged in connection with the attempted armed robbery of Lakeshore Market in May that ended with with store owner pulling out his own pistol and firing three rounds at the two robbers who had entered his store.
Jordan Bowie, 18, was formally charged on Thursday, June 3, in Hennepin County District Court with aiding/abetting attempted aggravated robbery- first degree. This is considered a felony.

Five charged with theft from vehicles

One adult and four juveniles have been charged with crimes related to
thefts from vehicles in Waconia and Chaska, according to Carver County
Sheriff Bud Olson.

At 3:30 a.m., Aug. 19 a Sandbar Circle resident in Waconia called
the Sheriff’s Office to report someone going through cars in the
neighborhood. Deputies responded to the area and stopped a vehicle with
five occupants. One of these occupants specifically matched the
description the caller gave of an individual going through cars,
according to the Sheriff’s Office press release.

One admits to armed robbery in Chanhassen

Two men have been charged in connection with armed robberies at gasoline stations in Waconia and Chanhassen in the past month.

Tyler James Burton Funk, 23, from Shakopee, and Phillip Lee Graunke,
20, of Prior Lake, were being held at the Carver County Jail and are
scheduled to appear in Carver County District Court Aug. 21.

Following an extensive search, two men have been arrested on charges of committing an armed robbery in Waconia, according to a press release from Carver County Sheriff Bud Olson.

At 6:38 a.m., Aug. 15, the dispatch center received a 9-1-1 call reporting an armed robbery had just occurred at the Kwik Trip gas station at 809 Vista Blvd in Waconia. The caller stated a man displayed a handgun, robbed the cashier and fled in a small black car, possibly a Cavalier.

ST. PAUL — Following one of the deadliest Memorial Day holiday weekends ever, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is reinforcing the need for motorists to drive belted, safe and sober during the Independence Day weekend. Last year alcohol-related crashes accounted for five of the eight motorists killed surrounding the holiday. Another 1,819 motorists were arrested for DWI.To combat impaired driving, Operation NightCAP (nighttime concentrated alcohol patrol) enhanced DWI enforcement efforts will be conducted during the 4th of July weekend.
