One adult and four juveniles have been charged with crimes related to
thefts from vehicles in Waconia and Chaska, according to Carver County
Sheriff Bud Olson.
At 3:30 a.m., Aug. 19 a Sandbar Circle resident in Waconia called
the Sheriff’s Office to report someone going through cars in the
neighborhood. Deputies responded to the area and stopped a vehicle with
five occupants. One of these occupants specifically matched the
description the caller gave of an individual going through cars,
according to the Sheriff’s Office press release.
Deputies interviewed all five occupants, who allegedly admitted
going through vehicles and stealing items in both Waconia and Chaska.
All five were arrested for theft and possession of stolen property and
transported to the Carver County jail. Further investigation indicated
at least some of the individuals have been allegedly involved in thefts
from vehicles over the past several months in Waconia, Chaska, Carver,
Chanhassen, Norwood Young America and Shakopee, the release stated.
The adult arrested is Joshua St Amand, 18, of Chaska. He was charged
with receiving stolen property, a felony. Bail on St Amand was set at
$100 cash or $1,000 bond.
Also arrested were a 16-year-old boy from Cologne and three
15-year-old girls from Waconia, Mayer and Winsted. The juveniles have
all been charged with theft and receiving stolen property, according to
the press release.
“This case is a great example of how the community can help us by
calling when they see something suspicious” Olson stated. “We’re proud
of the caller for their quick thinking and willingness to get involved”
he said.
The Sheriff’s Office has recovered a great deal of property, much of
which has not been reported stolen, the release stated, including
laptop computers, iPods, cell phones, cameras, car stereos, CD players,
DVD’s, face plates, GPS units, knives, electronic games, radar
detectors, cash and other miscellaneous items.
“Now we need the public’s help to identify where all the items came
from” Olson stated. “We are asking individuals to contact us if they
are missing something from an unlocked car over the past few months.
Even if it seems trivial, we would like to return the items we have
recovered to the rightful owners.”
