Gubernatorial candidate Rep. Paul Kohls (R-Victoria) stopped by the Chanhassen Villager office Monday morning to discuss his quest for the governorship.
The four-term congressman, whose first order of business is to convince party deligates to support his candidacy, said his campaign will focus on fiscal responsibility and responsible government. Kohls thinks both issues will resonate with party activists and "the broad middle."
"So what does Kohls bring to this? I think Kohls brings a candidate who is endorsable and someone who has the ability to take a conservative message and make it appealing to people in the middle or people who are unidentified with a party. I think that my focus as a legislator on fiscal issues is what will resonate as we go into the campaign. I think that I bring an ability to talk about those issues in a way that most Minnesotans not only understand but agree with and appreciate" he said. "We simply cannot, as a state, afford to make everything a priority. We have to make some tough choices. I've been advocating that we make those choices my entire legislative career."
In search of a sincere politician? Kohls said he's your guy. "I think Minnesotans want a sincere politician. That's why we elect Rod Grams and Paul Wellstone. Both were sincere in their convictions."
"I am the most capable person to lead the Republican ticket," he said.
More Kohls quotes and a detailed story of the 35-year-old Congressman's quest for the governorship will be in an upcoming print edition of the Chanhassen Villager.
